We’ve docked in Barcelona for the day and if you’ve been paying attention you may have picked up on the fact that quite a few of my cut-outs on this trip have had an aquatic/sea theme as an ode to being on a cruise ship for the past nine days. So here in Barcelona it made sense to do a photo with the Torre Agbar, home to the Barcelona water company. This is the last official stop on my cruise with the Princess team, however they’ve kindly let me stay on board so that I can get off in the Azores (somewhere I’ve always wanted to go), so I’ll be sharing a couple of photos from the islands next #comebacknew #PrincessCruises #PassionPassport #TravelAwesome #igTravel #WanderLust #Travel #Holiday #Vacation #Cruise #CruiseLife #InstaCruise #StreetArtLovers #ForcedPerspective #Funny #TravelStoke #Paper #PaperArt #Art #Silhouette #Penguin #Barcelona #Spain #TorreAgbar Rich McCor (@paperboyo)分享的貼文 於 張貼

Pisa had been occupied by the Nazis in WWII, but in 1944 the US army was advancing. The tower, or as the US soliders referred to it the “Tiltin’ Hilton”, was suspected of being used by the Nazis as a lookout tower, so Staff Sgt. Leon Weckstein was tasked with scouting the Tower to confirm their suspicions. From a nearby olive grove, he peered through his binoculars looking for signs of life; his order was that if saw movement he would call ‘fire’ down the radio and the tower would be demolished in seconds. But just as he studied the landmark, bombs exploded nearby and Weckstein was ordered to retreat. Had he seen anyone in the tower, the famous landmark may not still be standing today. In an interview with the Guardian in 2000 he was asked if he thought the Germans were in the tower: “You know something? I’ve had 50 years to think about it, and I’m pretty sure they were.” (Head to @princesscruises to see more images) #comebacknew

Have you ever heard of the word naumachia? Until I got to Rome I hadn’t either, but it’s a word the Romans used to describe simulated naval fights – they were like gladiator battles on a bigger and wetter scale. Sometimes special structures were built and other times lakes were used, but there is evidence that the colosseum was once turned into a gladiatorial water world for a naumachia (the more you say that word, the more addictive it becomes). According to the Roman historian Cassius Dio, a sea fight took place in the amphitheatre in 86 AD. Ships, weapons and thousands of men were brought in and since every effort was made to make a naumachia (I bet you’re saying it out loud now) a colossal event, even sea creatures were shipped in from around the globe – hence why I put an octopus inside the colosseum, because y’know when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Time to hop back on board Royal Princess and head up the coast to the port of Livorno to visit Florence. (Head to @princesscruises to see more images) #comebacknew

Last month I went behind the scenes at Gatwick Airport which meant wearing a very bright high-vis jacket, having my tripod blown over by an A380, deciphering radio messages from the control tower and being driven around the runway like a boss. It was genuinely one of the most fun experiences I’ve had (except having to fix my tripod on the runway). I was at the airport to take a series of photos for @gatwickairport to highlight some of the destinations they fly to, starting off with this one of the control tower as the Statue of Liberty’s torch. The rest of the series will be in popping up in my takeover on @gatwickairport this week -so go follow them. And keep an eye on my Insta Stories this week for some behind-the-scenes images of me capturing the photos in my eye-catching high-vis jacket #gatwick #gatwickairport #newyork #statueofiberty #paperart #airportlife #airport #travel #NY #America #USA #holiday #wanderlust #passionpassport #travelawesome #neverstopexploring #destinationearth

Here’s something I learnt this week – if you go out into the streets of London with a Death Star paper cut-out, strangers stop and take a lot of interest in what you’re doing. A few even came up and excitedly chatted Star Wars to me whilst I was getting the shots for this composition, but the truth is I’m one of the six people on the planet who has never seen the original Star Wars. So a couple of weeks ago when @odeoncinemas asked me if I wanted to see Rogue One at the BFI IMAX in London, I said “sure, but I have no idea what the back story is”. Turns out when you’re watching it on a huge screen (the largest in the UK no less) and surrounded by excited fans – you can’t help but be swept up in the whole Star Wars world #RogueOneOfficial #RogueOne #Ad #Odeon #London #Cityscape #Skyline #Sunset #StarWars #DeathStar

The countdown to the New Year is on! As 2017 arrives I imagine a lot of people will be keen to forget the year we’ve just had, but good things did happen in 2016 – the number of Tigers in the world rose, as did the number of Giant Pandas, Humpback Whales & Green Sea Turtles. A peace deal was signed in Colombia after 50 years of civil war. Sri Lanka is now malaria free after a wildly ambitious plan to eradicate it in five years paid off. The Solar Impulse 2 travelled 35,000km around the world powered by nothing but the sun. Candace Payne made millions of people laugh with a Chewbacca mask. Volunteers in India planted 50 million trees in 24 hours (read that again. How amazing is that?). Portugal ran its entire nation solely on renewable energy for four days straight. A new Harry Potter book came out. An on duty policeman proposed to his boyfriend in front of thousands of people at London pride. Sea World is no longer breeding captive Killer Whales. 93% of the world’s children are learning to read and write – the highest percentage in history. Good stuff is happening all around us- look for it and be a part of it. Oh, and one other good thing that happened this year- Leo finally got that oscar! A very Happy New Year wherever you are and a ‘yuge’ thank you for following my adventures in 2016. I’m looking forward to sharing more photos, travel stories & unbelievable facts with you in 2017 #HappyNewYear #BigBen #London #2017 #ThisIsLondon Rich McCor (@paperboyo)分享的貼文 於 張貼
